The 4th Sunday luncheon is a community meal run by volunteers from the community. Chef Julia Hunt cooks the food each month and plans a meat entree and a vegetarian entree. The cost of the meal is $10.00 per adult and $5:00 per child. All monies go back into the community except for what is needed to buy food. In the last two years 4th Sunday meals have provided $16, 521.77 for our community to organizations such as the Food Pantry, F.A.C.E.S. emergency services, the United Gift Fund and the Julia Hunt Endowment for scholarships. Tickets can be bought in our church office, other local churches, the United Community Bank, and the St. Joseph's Thrift Shop. "

Faith and Community Emergency Services (F.A.C.E.S.)
Many of the county's churches and human services agencies have approached the county and expressed the need for one place that a person can go to be screened for any help or assistance that they might be eligible for. Pastors and agencies have also contacted our agency asking if their church congregation or organization might donate money to our assistance fund so that they can then simply call us or send people to us when a need is identified. There are many advantages by operating this way. First and foremost, they might be eligible for other programs that they are not aware of like Medicaid or Food Stamps. The idea is that we would like to have a "one stop-shopping" in Swain County when it comes to helping those in need. It saves clients from completing unnecessary, duplicating, and confusing paperwork. It also saves them time that they would spend driving to many various locations.
The Food Pantry of Swain County
The Bryson City Food Pantry is a ministry of the Swain County Ministerial Association. Canned goods, and staples are available to all individuals in need. A certificate for milk and bread is also provided. The Pantry is located at the Bryson City Presbyterian Church and is open every Tuesday from 6 pm to 7 pm and Friday from 10:00 AM until Noon. Vouchers may be obtained from DSS or any participating minister.
Julia Hunt Endowment
This fund provides scholarships for Swain County residents pursuing a degree at a university or college with volunteer experience in Swain County
